The Package Says It’s For Your Package

I don’t claim to be the brightest person in the world. I even don’t claim to be very astute at picking up on social cues. In fact, I am pretty dense at times.

When my girlfriend bought me this razor I assumed it was just another pair of clippers with some fancy marketing behind it. I had assumed it was a hint to shave my head and my beard since she prefers my clean-shaven look over my scruffy mountain man look that happens periodically when I don’t feel like shaving for 1 – 2 months at a time. It didn’t help that she had been complaining about me not shaving my head or beard for the past few weeks

I missed the words on the front of the package that said it’s “DESIGNED FOR GROIN GROOMING”. I thought the “SkinSafe Technology” that “Helps protect from manscaping accidents” was just fancy marketing speak.

I assumed the “We Save Balls” message on the side of the package that mentioned them partnering with the Testicular Cancer Society was mostly just because it was a mens’s grooming product.

I guess was right about that in some respects, but in other respects it just flew over my head. Again on the back of the package I missed the “DESIGNED FOR GROIN GROOMING” message and even missed the “YOUR BALLS WILL THANK YOU” on the inside flap when I opened it up.

Your Balls Will Thank You Message on the inside of the Lawn Mower 3.0 packaging.

Your Balls Will Thank You – How Did I Miss This?!

You know what? I just might be the most aloof man in history.

Incorrectly Using the Lawn Mower 3.0

Since I missed all the marketing about it being designed for groin grooming I initially tested it on my face and head. It took about 11 minutes for me to shave both my face and head. Needless to say I wasn’t very impressed with the results. The notes I took right after the shave were

  • Hard to get an even cut.
  • Doesn’t get too close to the skin. If you’re looking for a clean shave it will disappoint you.
  • Hard to get the mustache are right underneath nose.
  • Even without guard you’re not getting a very close shave.
  • Blade appears to be made out of plastic and eventually has to be replaced.

Even though I didn’t realize it was specifically for the nether regions I still tried it out on my groin. My notes for this indicated:

  • Decent for man parts. Hard to cut some hairs, but you can hold the hair taut and it will cut it. However, you’re introducing the risk of getting skin caught and mangled.

Using the Lawn Mower 3.0 For Groin Grooming

Designed For Groin Grooming

It wasn’t until now that I realized my ineptitude. I finally got around to taking photos of the razor and the packaging and that’s when I actually read everything on the package and realized it wasn’t designed to be used for two of three body areas I had shaved with it.

At that moment I had the feeling that all mens experience when they miss a hint from a woman. In my defense, I did get the hint that I needed to shave, but I was completely off the mark on what she wanted me to shave with it.

I asked her if I should be offended that she bought me it for my birthday. I likened it to me buying her a vacuum cleaner for her birthday. She was very animated and adamant that she had asked me on numerous occasions for ideas for a birthday gift, but I never her gave any.

Apparently, she gave me one last opportunity that I blew off and she saw a TV ad for it and decided to buy me one.

Review After Using the Lawn Mower 3.0 Correctly

Back of the box.

Now that I knew the intended I use case, I gave it another try. With my expectations properly set I went about “mowing the lawn”. Here are my thoughts after my second time shaving with it:

  • It makes complete sense why you don’t get a close shave. The closer shave you get the more at risk you are for mangling your man bits. This especially true since the skin in this region tends to be not very firm.
  • It does a good job of cutting through long pubic hair. It’s faster than scissors and doesn’t get clogged up on longer hair like a typical cartridge razor.
  • The touted “SkinSafe Technology” makes a lot more sense now. However, despite this technology I managed to nick myself the one place I had never nicked myself before. I think I didn’t stretch the skin taut in one area and it folded up and went into the blade, despite the guard being there. After that, and some minor triage, I religiously stretched the skin tight and didn’t have any further issues.
  • What I previously thought was a plastic blade is, in fact, a replaceable ceramic blade. While you still potentially have to replace it in the future, I’m a little more hopeful that it will last a long time before needing to be replaced.

Final Thoughts

It’s really good when you use it for the specific use case it was designed for. I will definitely continue to use it. If you do decide to purchase one for yourself or someone else just make sure they know to keep the skin tight and that’s it not meant to be used to shave their head or face.

Hahaha! Thomas, This is kind of hilarious. Also thanks for sharing to us your honest personal review and use of this product. First time hearing of this actually. If there is anything everyone should learn from this is that; Always do a tiny bit of research on a product before us. The Lawn mower do seem pretty cool tho. I am surely tired of using Scissors, blades And getting at least one tiny sore every time I shave.

No problem!  I’m still scratching my head on how I didn’t notice the “groin grooming” and the “Your balls will thank you” message.

Thank you for the interesting and the funny read. I laughed through the reading. Thank you for introducing us to Lawn Mower. never heard or came across it. We truly learn everyday. Maybe I will consider it as a birthday present for my husband also and will make sure that he doesn’t miss all the important messages.

You’re welcome!  If you do get one definitely make sure he knows what body part it’s for!

Thanks for this indepth and informative review on the Manscaped The Lawn Mower 3.0. Sharing your experience is really a great way of showing what this clipper has to offer. You totally misjudged this clipper at first, but it is nice that you finally saw its usefulness when used for its intended purpose.

A lot of us makes same mistake of not reading instructions rather we use items based on assumption. I could have made same mistake, first time seeing a razor dedicated for a specific body part. I really liked the way you describe the skinsafe technology. It shows its adaptability to the most sensitive part of the body. I  just checked the price and its affordable. thank you for this razor

Yes, the SkinSafe technology is interesting.  I do wonder how much safer it is over a normal set of clippers especially since I managed to nick myself even with the SkinSafe feature.  I wonder how if it’s really just marketing to make men feel comfortable using what amounts to a set of clippers on their sensitive bits.

Oh, maan…thanks God I found this article. I never thought such tool existed. Now I need not worry about getting hurt by all the other tools in the market! Sadly, I may not be able to buy it soon. I need to find it in the local market. During the recent pandemic, it’s always a hassle to buy stuff online on foreign market. Shipping and customs  are often challenging. Once I waited around 6 months for my purchase to arrive. Anyway, thanks again for the article!

It might be worth it to see if a online retailer local to your country has it in stock.

I can tell from the non-close shaving part that the Lawn Mower 3.0 is the real deal. The skin around the sensitive area is a bit different, I used a beard shaver just to try and god was it painful! I had to wait a few days until it heals, I hate it especially during the first few days when the pubic hair starting growing again, that was a nightmare hahaha.

    • Thomas Dec 12, 2020 @ 11:53

You’re a braver man than me trying to use a beard shaver on the pubic area.  There hasn’t been any type of itchiness for me while the hair is growing back.

You crack me up! What a splendid way to introduce Manscaped Lawn Mower 3.0! Why would they design this to look like the usual shaver? No wonder you shaved on unintended places. This seems to make a perfect novelty Christmas gift . It will surely bring a laughter to all. 🙂

To be fair, they did put a lot of marketing on their packaging that indicated how it was supposed to be used.  I’m sure they didn’t anticipate someone missing all of those messages.  I was at Target yesterday and noticed they have a companion razor called the Weedwacker designed to trim ear and nose hair.  I definitely won’t use that one in the wrong place if my girlfriend decides to give me a follow up gift.
